NOTE:  Page 134 #5d)  The expression is made of 1 term with 2 variables.  So, the degree of this term is 2 + 4 = 6. 


This is the same with #5e) where the term is made of 2 variables.  So the degree is 5.
Try 5f)!


And on page 135, #6d) is a binomial.  The first term has a degree of 3 + 2 = 5 and the second term has a degree of 2 + 5 = 7.  The degree for the BINOMIAL is the largest degree  and in this case, it is 7.  Try 6e).

You will be given a problem and its solution.  The solution is scrambled and written in Mrs. Passafiume's view point.  Your job, individually, will be to unscramble the solution and present it in the BEST way possible. The algebraic intent in each line of solution should be communicated clearly and flow logically.  You will be given 30 minutes to complete this task.

#8 is beyond this unit.  We won't see this type until Unit 1C

    Sometimes for ease, we need to round decimals so that we don't have to deal with so many digits.  The simple rounding rule is:
>5 Round Up
<5 Round Down
=5 Round to the even number

Example 1:  Round to the nearest ones.

    • Pencil & Eraser
      A mechanical pencil, with extra lead, is preferred as it does not need sharpening during evaluations.  During the EQAO, you will not be permitted to get up and use the sharpener on the wall.  Be sure to have a sharpener of your own.  
    • Calculator (not your phone!)
      Your calculator should have trigonometric functions (SINE, COS and TAN).  Consider an upgrade to your calculator should you not have these functions.  It's a good time to get used to a new calculator in grade 9.  In grade 10, you will use the trigonometric functions mentioned above. 
    • Ruler
    • Coloured Pencils
    • Graph Paper
